Sony Vaio laptop in mass ‘recall’

Authorities in the US have instructed Sony to conduct a recall of its Vaio laptops, after problems with overheating were reported.

Sony said the problem affects more than half a million of its F and C series laptops sold since the start of 2010.

Sony’s New VAIO P-Series Hints at a Tablet

Sony’s initial answer to the netbook market was the VAIO P-Series, an elongated clam shell that had an 8-inch widescreen and ran on Intel’s Atom platform. It’s sleek and looked nothing like your average netbook, but it was also pricey. On Monday, the P-Series receives a new Atom processor and several new features that might indicate a slate tablet is on the way.

The P-Series is still one of a kind, as it’s the only laptop that uses an 8-inch widescreen and has a footprint the size of two Apple iPhones joined together at the top. It has a severely undersized keyboard, with a centralized pointing stick used for navigation. With the previous model, touchpad users were out of luck.
